Reading data from Motronic (DME)

Would somebody please tell me what kind of protocol is used by the DME in a Carrera 1990? As I understand there is a PC-like serial port to the motronic which if correctly addressed should deliver interesting data. I just like to connect a laptop to the motronic to get those data.

Any information on the subject would be appreciated.
