Can a choice of muffler help cool engine

I put a 3.6 in and am running 993 heat exchangers with a two in one out muffler. Now, I have read somewhere that if I switched to a two in two out that it could help in keeping everything in the exhaust area a little less HOT. Is there any truth to this?

theory says yes as the back pressure should be less. but that depends on the type of muffler

Well, if you could fit a Titanium muffler or two [Z06 comes to mind] ... that would certainly minimize heat transfer to the air under a 911 engine!

I ran a two in/two out aftermarket muffler, and now have on a two in/one out factory stock.

1) Engine temps are the same, regardless.
2) Revs are the same, regardless.
3) Perceivable horsepower increase - not perceived.
4) Noise is less - but not too much less.

Beyond that, I'm going with an M&K dual in/one out. You can't beat a 13# muffler no matter what's out there.

It should not be hard to make a muffler out of sheet Titanium... it would weigh about half what steel ones do, thus saving 8 lbs off the very end of the car.
