Quick Strut Cart Removal Question

Just a quick one I am hoping someone has an answer for...

I am in the process of replacing the front Strut Cartridges on my 79 SC but am having a little difficulty. On the locking top nut I am having an impossible time removing it. When I am trying to loosen it the entire cartridge just rotates along with the curved metal washer below it.

Are there any tricks to get this nut loosened/removed that I am missing here?

Thanks!

A pipe wrench on the curved washer worked for me. It will leave a few teeth marks on the washer though.

Have you tried holding the washer with a pair of giant channel locks or pipe wrench? The washer should have a tang that fits into the groove of the strut top stud.

Failing that, sometimes an impact wrench can break it loose as well.
