Performance Airbox for my SC

Has anyone had experience with these on their 911SC?

As some of you may remember from my last thread, i am looking for sound enhancement, and looking at the performance increase as a byproduct.

If any of you have any comments, suggestions, or thoughts on getting one of these airboxes for you Porsche please let me know how the sound of the engine changed.

I would also like to note that if i get one of these airboxes, i would be installing a K&N Filter with it at the same time.

Also, what is the difference between these two styles, i'm assuming the track version lets in water if you're washing your car, or its raining and the street version doesn't?
Is there pro's and con's to both? What are they?

Ok the first thing you will notice is a lightening of your wallet.........that is all. The performance increase will be.................nada. The sound is cool however, it sounds like a 4barell opening. You can get the exact same results from a couple of tie-straps.
By your K&N filter, place it in the airbox and secure it down with some tie-straps. I did this for a while and went back with the box cover. On the highway the endless droning was giving me a headache. (My sound padding in the engine bay is gone).
If you opt for one buy the street version, should you get cought in the rain with the track version, you may suck lots of water into the engine. That also applies to my econo-version. I carried my airbox cover in the trunk just in case.
You can also use a holesaw to make a "Swiss Cheese Cover" from your existing cover, that is unreversable. Try my way before you spend your money, you may not like it. Kind of running around without a muffler, it was only cool for a little while. JMO

Is it possible for me to try this method with my stock air filter?
I will probably get the air filter soon, but i do not have it yet.

and another thing, what type of tie straps do you mean?
Like zip-ties? or the tie-straps that hold down the air box cover? Can i use the tie straps to hold down the air filter alone?

also, i was reading other threads regarding this, does running without the airbox cover hurt the engine in anyway? or is it just the possibility of water leaking in?

Ok, so this morning i went out and took the air box cover off, and started it up. I thought it might have been a little bit louder, but then when i put the cover back on, it sounded the same?

Is the sound increase only when you are driving it? Or is it supposed to be noticeable at idle as well? Any input would be appreaciated.

Ok Ken,
Remove the cover and use Zip ties. Since it is a trial run looks don't apply. You can use the standard filter it just doesn't breath like the K&N. You should buy one of those anyway, believe it or not you can feel a diff. much smoother throughout the "R's"
You won't hurt your engine by doing this................unless you get into rain. Water is the only fear you have by running an open filter.
You will also need to drive the car to hear the new noisy induction system.
