Torsion/Sway bars Question...
Ok, I was thinking about upgrading my Torsion and Sway bars on my '87 930. But I've run across a bit of information that made me post this question. Hopefully you guys can help me.........
OEM Sway bar Front: 22 mm Sway bar Rear: 20mm OEM Torsion Bar Front: 18.8 Torsion Bar Rear: 26 First off are these numbers correct for my '87 930? Cause they seem kinda funny to me. Just unsual that the front would have a larger sway bar then the rear. Can anyone explain this? Secondly, is there a way I could live with my 20mm rear sway bar and change just the rear torsion bar to feel like a 22mm sway bar and a 29mm torsion bar. Like going with a eff rate 31 or 32mm torsion bar and keeping the 20mm sway bar? Thanks in advance! ![]()

Your numbers agree with the little Tech Spec book. Seems the front sway bar is bigger for all the examples I've seen. Since the engine (i.e. most of the weight is in the rear), I originally thought this was funny too. Stock for my 84 Carrera is 20mm front & 18mm rear (also bigger on the front). BTW: In 1986 Carrera (NON-turbo) came with 22 front & 21mm rear sway, but I don't know if this 21mm rear sway bar will fit on your 87 Turbo though. "Secondly, is there a way I could live with my 20mm rear sway bar and change just the rear torsion bar to feel like a 22mm sway bar and a 29mm torsion bar. I think the logic is stiff sways can unload the inside tires on hard cornering. Note: If you go too big on the rear Tbars without changing the fronts, you may get over steer. Hope this helps! ![]() P.S. I'm in no way an expert, but very willing to share what I've learned (Much of it from this board).

Thanks for verifying my numbers.
Yup, I'm planning on changing the TB and the SB at the same time. I'm just collecting parts right now so when the time comes I don't have to wait for stuff in the mail. Are the sway bars interchangeable between a narrow body 911 and the widebody 930? I don't see why not, but maybe I'm wrong. Can someone confirm this.

Yes the 911 thru 86 are the same as 930 thru 88.
