915 spun bearing carrier/race

Here is what we found this morning inside an 1984 915 tranny. We assume the race should not move in the case but it came out easily and there is obvious damage from rotation. Is the case trash at this point? If not, what can we do? Thanks for any help.

A sleeve can be made, but there is maching to do on the case. Might be better to start anew. At least wait and see what others have to say. I know MikeZ had something like this done at Asse Bros., but they are here in CA.

Wevo has a fix but it isn't easy. They machine out the bearing bores and insert a one piece steel insert that contains both of the bores, shaped kind of like the number 8. This is the best route because it fixes both of the bores and keeps them aligned correctly relative to each other, it also replaces the soft aluminum with steel. The downside is that you have to send them your case and it is expensive.

Keith,

I had the same problem on my 84. I sent mine to Patrick Motorsports. They re-sleeved all the races on my transaxel which compared to other options was the most cost effective option. However, It probably is not the best option is you decide to race the car. Although Patrick Motorsports does good work, be prepared to wait a long time and follow up frequently for your work to get done. This type of work does not seem to be a priority for them from my experience.

pretty ragged in there. find another housing or a core trans, and hope that it's not the same. it's very common these days. wevo, among others, has a fix but it's costly. what's the R+P look like? any scoring from being out of spec?

BTDT....I had Aase machine it out, press in a sleeve and then use a WEVO retaining plate to keep the shafts steady and hopefully not happen again.

Thanks for all the advice. Looks like machining the case or finding a new donor are the options.

The ring and pinion teeth look worn and there appears to be a line worn about 1 mm from the top of each tooth. Can those with more experience comment on the state of the R&P from the following photos?
