Oil leaking story continues!!

I have ask advice with regard to the oil leakes of my 75 911S several times so perhaps some of you are still familiar with the leaking habit om my 911. However yesterday I returned the car from my mechanic after they had given her a nice service inlcuding valve adjustment, oil change, etc, etc, When I stopped the car in my garage at home the whole garage was filled with thick dark clouds of smoke coming from the engine . Looking underneath the car I saw drops of oil hanging from the right lower valve cover, from the bolts to be more exactly. What have they done with my baby!! Further more I was told by the mechanic that 2 or 3 of cylinders are loose? and that this means complete engine overhaul . Does anybody knows how those cylinders can getloose, can't you just simple tighten them?? can I continue driving?? Can I damage the rest of the engine?? Ohoh so many questions. Help!

Oh Oh,
I think you are beginning to experience the famous head-stud pulling problem, which is discussed frequently on this board - if you can trust your mechanic.
On the other hand, if the car was not leaking before the maintenance, what happened?
May be a warped Mg-valve cover (or do you have upgraded to Al-Turbo type already?).
Might be a blown valve cover gasket (either not exchanged during maintenance, or the bolts tightened too much. Or just one of the famous Aluminum washers missing?
I really would check thoroughly and decide if you can trust your mechanic...

If you have pulled head studs, well, there are different opinions. But from own experience, you can at least moderable drive your car still for a couple of 100' miles, even if its not desireable.

Good luck!

Sounds like they may have overfilled the oil. Was the smoke coming from the tailpipe, or burning off the engine, or both?
As for the loose cylinder I replied to this on another thread where you asked about it.

THanks guys, I was afraid that it would be this "famous" head stud pulling problem! If I understand you all correctly it is absolutely not a good idea to continue driving the car in this condition!
Does anybody know if you have to do a complete overhaul, or is it possible to simple take out engine, take engine apart, polish surface and rebuild?

The mechanic (and I feel that they are trustworthy) gave me a cost estimate of around 6.000 DGL that's approx. usd 2500 He said that they need some 40 hours for the job. Should I install the Carrera chain tensioners at the same time?

With regard to the oil leaking, I am almost sure that this is not related to the head stud pulling problem, but that during the last service something went wrong, somehow, somewhere. And yes my 911 has the modified al turbo valve covers. Further more I called the mechanic and he appologized, tomorrow morning I will take the car back to him to find out what went wrong. I will keep you informed!

ohoh it is going to be an expensive love affaire!
