Armor All for Rubber Areas?

hey guys, what's a good product to use to clean the rubber parts of my 911? For example, the rubber lip on the turbo tail and the rubber bumpers on that back bumper? Is the standard Armor All for shining tires OK to use?

Thanks,

Paul

no avoid it like the plague

Meguairs makes a good rubber treatment

can also try Mothers, and others that do NOT have any silicones in them

Randy couldn't be more correct.

There's also a spray I like, something like in & out, inside & out, can't find it here. I used to buy it at a car detailer supply store. Inside & outside?

I use a product that protect aircraft de-ice rubber boot. The name is Age Master and it's made by BF Goodrich...It give superb results for the tail lip.

I worked a semester at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum doing restoration. Armorall was forbiden! It will lead to cracks in non-metalics.

Paul,
I recommend Back to Black. I think it is a Mother's product and I have used it on two VERY neglected 944 spoilers with very good results. you've got to soak it in and rub it in.

I use Vinylex (made by Lexol) which actually will clean the rubber. I have sprayed it on the tires and you can see the brown dirt running. I spray it on and let it sit for about a minute then wipe off the excess. It leaves a real nice sheen. Definetly no greasy feeling. It also holds up to water alot longer than Armor-All.

Age master is an outstanding suggestion. Never occurred to me, though I've flown lots of airplanes with boots. I've been using 3M Rubber Treatment, which is also good. I don't know about the "brown dirt running" that s2gart mentions, though. You see that with the 3M stuff too, but I think it's just the compound melting a bit of the exterior rubber (which is actually brown though it looks black). Makes me wonder how much you should use these things...

I've used Back to Black just because it is cheap and easily available. Works for me.

Another Vinylex user on interior and exterior Vinyl. I did not use on tires though.

For the tires, in the past I used a Zymol Tire Preserve. A bit expensive, but very little went a long ways, it did not attract grime and stayed a nice dull shine for the longest of anything I've used.

brown 'dirt' might be the oxidized rubber on the surface being removed -- ozone turns rubber into a brown powder over time.

may as well mention the Wurth product - it cleans rubber really well, but doesn't seem to be a protectant like Meguairs or some of the others.

pick form the list above and see if you like the pick; if not pick another

I use AutoGlym bumper care on all my black rubber parts. Very long lasting and won't turn brown. I got it at Autopia.org.
