build a wrap-around rear '73 bumper
I like the look of the side bumpers on the car but don't like the way the line is broken up by the bumperettes/rear panel. I'd like a wrap-around look. My plan is to lay my hands on a few rear bumpers (I'm figuring on 6 or 7 because I can only get about 5" or 6" out of each one ) and butt weld approx 5 of them together to form the middle section of one complete wrap-around bumper. Has anyone ever seen something like this? I could also do fiberglass but welding is probably easier. I'm a bodyman by trade so this isn't as far-fetched as it sounds. If anyone knows of a fiberglass bumper out there like this please let me know so I can avoid a bunch of work. Also, does anyone have 6 or 7 rear bumpers they'd like to unload? Dented up ok, left or right unimportant, can't be rusty. Thanks, Don.

Sounds like you are describing Jack Olsen's '72 911, aka Black Beauty
II or BBII. I believe the panel on Jack's is fiberglass and still available by the original manufacturer of this part. Get a hold of Jack Olsen on this board or do a search and I'm sure it is described in detail in one of Jack's posts. Good Luck http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1164960236.jpg |
not quite what I'm thinking, picture the part under the tailights and quarters running completely around the back end. can someone tell me how to get pictures on here, I'm a computer idiot! Don.

I have seen pictures of 2 cars like that on this forum. I can't remember where though.. wouldn't a '73 911T front bumper be a good match for the inbetween part?

thanks guys, it never occurred to me to use a front bumper for the center section. ( my car has a fiberglass 's' front ). should cut down drastically on the welding. Don.

Mitcom was the source for Jack Olsen's rear bumper back in the '70s and '80s, but they no longer exist ... per TRE in this thread:
