Gauges doing a wierd dance
My 76 911S gauges are acting a little odd. When I rev the motor between shifts, the TACH bounces a lot. Also, my oil level gauge is a little slow to register. Is this just the norm or is there a fix? Additionally, my trip meter NEVER resets back to 000.0 It gets close, but never fully there.

Check your wiring grounds-bad connections at the ground points can cause all kinds of weird electrical problems. My first one to check would be the transaxle to frame ground strap, then the grounds to the body up near the battery, and at the battery itself. If only the gauges are giving you problems, check the harness behind them to make sure the main ground wire hasn't been chafed by the wiper mechanism or something. Let us know what you find-and good luck.

I'll just add a me too, this is most likely a grounding problem!

I had the same problem before in my '76 911S with the dancing tach. I cleaned my points and they stopped their dancing. Hope this helps.
