RS Performance Upgrades
To many, the subject of this post may sound redundant, but here goes...
During a driver's ed mishap (mechanical overrev...don't ask) 73S (RS Spec) limped into the pits running on 5 cylinders. A few fellow PCA mechanics to a quick look and suspected a broken valve spring or possible a bent valve. A few trackside checks were done to test external ignition issues which seemed to check out fine. My question is this. Does anyone have any guesses on what my damage situation might be? Secondly, if a teardown is necessary, are there any obvious opportunities to add HP to this already fantastic engine? Thanks, ------------------ John 73 911S |
John,
I think you will find 1 broken intake rocker arm, and maybe a bent valve retainer ... just went through the SAME Diagnosis 10 days ago in the following thread: http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/Forum3/HTML/003004.html ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
John,
Is the engine stock-standard? If so, then may I suggest the idea of high compression pistons and an SSI exhaust system. Both 'items' were added to my (Euro) 74' Carrera, and both have added around 30bhp, while the SSI exhaust system has added more ‘height’ to the already adequate torque curve. But dropping 100kg is one of the cheaper engine mods available! Matt Holcomb www.holscope.com/74Carrera |
