1000 mile run-in
Hey guys,
Just put the first 1000 miles on my 3.2 after a home rebuild. All looks good. I slapped together a few web pages with pictures of the rebuild and other mods. Please check out http://users.ev1.net/~davmanku/porsche/Carrera.html Cheers |

Congratulations on the web pages and the home rebuild project ... well done!
I'm quite sure you will serve as an inspiration to many on this board needing to do similar work, but who are reluctant out of fear that something might go wrong. Your recovery from the rod bolt near disaster is a good example of using the Internet at its' BEST! I guess the best aspect of your entire engine experience was your ability to pull it off for such low cost ... I'm certain you have many envious observers all over the world, tonight! Keep up the great work, and enjoy your 911 to the fullest, you have earned that great ride!!! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Great page, and great rebuild!
Every step reinforces the idea that this kind of work is doable by anyone who has the patience to prep, study, ask a lot of questions -- and then figure out the best way to get it done right. Really inspiring. I especially like the picture of the author and mechanic, near the end. The exhaustion and the satisfaction are equally evident! ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T sunroof coupe [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 09-20-2000).] |

Very impressive!
My rebuild continues - got the case halves together last night and all the bolts and outer case nuts torqued up... Quick question - there's a small earth strap that goes from one of the upper case half nuts to connect to the alternator. I've forgotten if its the 3rd or fourth one along from the pulley end of the engine! Do you remember? - roGER |

Nice job!
Been wanting to do the same mod on my 86 Carrera but I'm afraid it wouldn't pass the visual here in California. Even with a cat., I wonder what this would do to my tailpipe emissions. Cheers, Joe |

Thanks for the kind words guys, I really appreciate it.
Juan, I rekon I saved a packet. I know places charge about 4 grand and up or so for a similar rebuild assuming your existing major components are reusable. Thanks again to Warren for saving my ass regarding the rod bolts....(long story, but probably one of the most significant pieces of advice I got during the rebuild) Roger, I did the very same thing with the alternator earth strap, I attached it in the car when I installed the alternator by removing one case nut and using a new washer after putting the earth strap on. Sorry, I can't remember which one but it's pretty obvious when your doing it. jbkeir, in the interests of staying married, I hope I never see the inside of a 911 motor any time soon, so yes, i'll be keeping my day job! But seriously, the car continues to behave perfectly and i'm having so much fun near the red line, I love the way it keeps pulling hard and gets so vicious from 5000 to 6400 rpm! it was well worth it. Cheers |

beetos,
Great job! I hope one day I get the courage to work on my 3.2 like that. I'm afraid that if I drop it I'll have to write a HELP/SOS message here to get it back into the car! :-) Rich '86 Carrera |

Excellent work and excellent site. You confirmed one of my worst fears. I'm not nearly as worried about screwing something up (I know I'll do that) as I am about my wife wanting a divorce before the work is completed.
