Electronic dizzy CIS
I had to send to germany to get a new set of contact points. They should be here in 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately i cant seem to find out if there is a condenser in the system. If there is, it is no longer availiable!
Oh, 74 2.7. Is there a later model pointsless distributor which will slot in? Thanks, Col.

Forget about putting points in & use a Pertronix Ignitor your points problems will be over fro ever.Look at the posts re pertronix to see how simple it is. I have a 74S & it is the simplest & most rewarding conversion you can do.Cheers

No condenser is used in the point-triggered Bosch CDI system.
The '78 and later magnetic-trigger distributors turn counter-clockwise, and require changing the drive gear inside engine! A later, 6-pin CDI unit is required, too. Pertronix Ignitors have a spotty reliability record. Experienced users say to carry a spare or set of points along and the tools to change out ... if you don't want to get stranded!

Mate, carrying a spare set of points is a done thing. But it can & is a bloody long way between drinks in australia. Getting stranded in the middle of nowhere is a real possibility. I wont be amused if the new [spare] set in the glove box turns out to be dodgey!
I will be just as pissed off if i have to leave the little car at a mechanics shop, 400k's from nowhere, because a new set of points has to come from Germany! So there isn't a Porsche electric dissy which will slot straight in?

Why are you purchasing points from Germany? Its just a Bosch distributor, they can be bought from Repco for about $15 or I'm sure you could get them from Performance9 in Melbourne (http://www.performance9.com.au/) or even from Porsche in Brisbane. I have yet to hear of anyone being stranded through bad points.

I looked, i searched, i had to order from Germany. That is, my local speed supplier did. Everyone i asked sung the same story, "none left in the country".
I think someone must have a 2.7 that eats points! As the story goes, the Bosche importer was placing an order the next week, or it could be BS!

The points on your 2.7 do not carry any current they are only a switching divice for the CDI they do not need a capacitor & should last indefinatly.as oz Carrera says you can get points at Woolworths.I have had my Pertronix in for 3 years & my 2.7 has not missed a beat.Cheers
