PET #s 3.2 engine speed & tdc reference sensor wires?
 

I finally found the cause of my intermittent engine miss (I hope). As you can see from the photos the wires that go from the harness bracket to the flywheel sensors are shot.

I explained to Maurice at Stoddard which wires I need and he faxed the PET drawing with part#s and description. The problem is that the drawing is not in context with anything and doesn't really look like the photos in my Bentley manual.

He said the PET #s are 911 606 108 00 for the timing mark sender (reference sensor wire in Bentley) and 911 606 215 01 for the pulse sender (engine speed sensor in Bentley). PET shows 911 606 215 01 to be two wires (??) and unless one goes somewhere else, I only need one to go to the bracket. Which makes me think it's not the same part.

In the photo the top wire is the cylinder head temp wire, with the speed sensor wire in the middle, with the tdc reference sensor wire at the bottom.

Anyone familiar with this? The bracket in the photo is right next to the heater blower on the left side of the 3.2 engine compartment.

Thanks Jerry. FWIW I checked PP first and when I fed in the part description it kept jumping to the whole 3.2 wiring harness for $800. :eek:

911-606-215-01-M14 (times two)

Pelican has them and they aren't cheap. You may need to do a partial engine drop to get to them. And don't take off the bracket. The hex head bolts stay only remove the allen screws that hold the sensors in the bracket or you will have to reset the gap.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like 911 606 215 01 which comes packed from Porsche as two wires is the one I need. I'm glad that I asked and I was pretty sure that someone here had the answer. I will check again with our host and get them here if available. For general info they are around $150 for the pair from the dealer.

The poor condition of the insulation on these wires makes me a little concerned about other engine wiring that might be approaching the end of it's life. :eek:


Has anyone changed these wires without dropping the engine?

John, thanks for the offer. I think that I'll go with new wires so that I don't have to go through this again in a few years.

If you can get them for $75 each you better jump all over them. If you have to order them they come individually so you would need to order two (2). Just trying to save you some shipping time and expense. By the way you can't just replace the wires. The sensor comes on the end of the wire along with the termination block. Just remember do not take out the hex bolts that attach the bracket or you will be regapping the sensors and the only way you are going to do that is with the tranny off.
