'93 RS America and C2...what's the difference?

I'm looking at a '93 RS America. From what I can tell, the difference between this and the "regular" 964 C2 are the following:

1. No power steering on the RS America
2. No sound deadening material in the RS America
3. Sunroof is manually operated on RS America.
4. The spoiler is fixed on the RS America as opposed to "active" on the 964.
5. Cloth interior on the RS America..no leather.
6. Air conditioning was optional on the RS America.
7. The door handles are nylon "pull tabs" on the RS-America, as opposed to actual handles on the C2.
8. Suspension on the RS America is the same used on the Turbo models, and I think one of the sway bars is supposed to be much heavier duty.

Is this everything, or are there performance modifications like a different intake, exhaust, etc. Are the tuning specs the same?

Thanks in Advance,

Bill Wagner

Bill, I believe the RS also came with "special" wheels. I think they were 8" fronts and 9.5" rears x17 in the five spoke C2 turbo style. Which I've been told are very rare.

A co-worker has one. And one thing that was not mentioned was the lack of the back seat.
There is a "Parcel shelf" instead.

With all the weight saving measures the RS had, i don't think it was that much lighter, can't remember the exact figures but I was not impressed, especially since it has a standard motor. I think the Euro equivalent (GT2??) had more power. I may be wrong, i'm sure Bruce Andersons book covrers these models.

They made a European Carrera RS 3.8 street version that was based on the racing version in 1993. This car produced about 300 HP. The American RS produced 10 more horsepower then a stock C2. All the "weight savings" from an already heavy car was minimal and the performance between the 2 is close.

If I'm not mistaken, the RS America had the same 250 hp engine as the standard Carrera 2, and was more a 'stripped down' model than it was 'tuned up'. The telling statistic is that it sold for about $10,000 less than an ordinary Carrera 2, whereas the European Carrera 2 RS sold for $20,000 more!

The RS America had the Carrera 2's optional M030 suspension package (although I don't know if that's the same as the turbo's), aluminum alloy Cup Design 17-inch (8's and 7's) wheels, and it lacked air conditioning, power steering, an electric sunroof, sound deadening materials and rear seats. It had power windows (unlike the European version) and the lightweight door panels with straps. It had a lighter, fixed, spoiler, but still weighed in at 2,955 pounds (as opposed to 3,083 for the regular C2, and 2,750 for the European Carrera RS).

The European Carrera 2 RS was a true racing version of the 911. The American RS was more compromised -- but was a bargain, of sorts, and could be tricked up into a worthwhile track car, in my opinion.

The RS America had 22mm front sway bars, and 20mm rear sway bars. The European RS had a livelier combination -- 24 in front and 18 in back. I believe a stock Carrera at the time had 20 and 20.

A Euro 964 Carrera RS had 260 HP and a "sport" suspension (as far as I know not a Turbo suspension). Everything was "leichtbau" with racing seats, plain doors with pull straps, no electric windows, no power steering etc. The rear spoiler was similar to normal 964s. The wheels were 7.5x17 and 9x17 with 205/50 and 255/40.

I would love to try a 964 RS
