Steering Wheel

One of the welds on my '83 911 gave and I bought a replacement on eBay. The package arrived a few minutes ago and the wheel appears to be broken - there was a small piece of place plastic in the bottom of the box, and it appears to have come from the wheel. If I've fitted it properly, it would stick out of the back of the wheel about an inch, like a tab that goes into a slot. So, is the wheel still useable like this, or do I need to initiate return procedures with the seller? I have no experience with this, and haven't disassembled my old wheel to check.

I'll bet that's the tab that cancels the turn signals after you turn a corner. I'm looking for the ring that that tab was attached to before it broke off.

Is this a common break? I lost a spoke on my 83 too.

BaldNerd: Thanks for the reply - the moment I read it I realized that that's exactly what it was. Fortunately, the company I bought if from on eBay was understanding and will refund my money when I've shipped it back. I'm only sorry that it was so poorly packaged, since the search for a new wheel will continue. I may go ahead and get the red&black Momo I was considering before this.

Rstoll: I've met a few other SC owners, and this does seem to be fairly common. I'm not too surprised, as the cars are quite old. Wish there was a way to repair the bugger. Stay original and probably stronger than used.

I bought an aftermarket wheel, and the adapter didn't even come with the horn ring, which has the signal canceler tab on it. I removed the one from the existing wheel (3 screws) and attached it to the adapter hub. No problem.

If you do go with the momo, I have a spare hub for your year. I bought one for my 70 T, and it showed up with the later hub, like yours. Perfect condition $35 if you want it. Ed
