Scale vector drawings of a 911?
I'm a graphic designer with a client who has purchased a 1992 911 C2RS America, which he plans to campaign in sanctioned SCCA and Porsche club events. I've been commissioned to develop the paint and graphics scheme for this vehicle.
However, I'm having difficulty finding accurate (or even semi-accurate) 1/20th scale vector drawings, in Adobe Illustrator or an equivalent .eps format, which I plan to use as the basis for developing the graphics. I know these drawings exist for nearly every other vehicle out there; I just can't locate any for Porsche in general, this model in particular. I was wondering if anyone participating in this forum could help? Anyone know of a source for drawings? They wouldn't even have to be of the exact model; I think I could get by with a scale set of a more or less equivalent 911 from that era to get the basic paint scheme into development. Please respond here or to me directly at dshepherd@aftermidnightinc.com Thanks, --David |
I would be interested in these also. I suspect the rarity of these files is due to the fact that vehicle vector images only became commercially avaiable in the early 90's. I have some vehicle vector CD's at my shop. I'll look into these for you.

Make me number 3 on the list.
If anyone has any form of a vector file I can convert it into any number of standard formats... |
RE: Vector Drawings
Thanks, guys. Whatever help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

adobe made a software program called streamline (i don't think they sell it anymore) but it taked raster images and converts them to vector illustrator files. the artwork usually needs a few repairs but it works. the hard part is finding a good technical drawing if the side, top, front and back views of a 911. if someone has these i can try and convert them.
as a side note to this i've been looking for the illustrator artwork that vinyl cutters use for the carrera graphics etc. anyone have these files? -matt |

I know that 10 years ago there were some photographic solutions that would take multiple images and calculate a 3D model from them. It reminded me of a stereoscope with a digitizer thrown in. Here we are a number of years later and I would expect that this type of system to be more common and much less expensive. It seems odd that someone wouldn't park a 911 in front of the camera and then let the resulting file out into the wild. |
There are a few raster to vector programs out there. The one I like is http://www.rastervect.com because of its lowest price($80), and it's got a trial use period.
A search for "Porche blueprints" wil give some side/front/backtop profiles for basic designing and there's been many posted here, but for a realistic 3/4 view etc.. you can buy pre-made models as well. Here's one place that should have p-cars: http://www.smcars.net/forums/work-progress |
David send a pm to Eric Hahl he made an awesome ai file of an 3.2 Carrera. I have it but i don,t want to give away another mans work :)

I'm brand new here, don't exactly know how this forum works, w/PM'ing and all. Is Eric a member? Could you forward him my email address
dshepherd@aftermidnightinc.com so I can correspond directly with him? Thanks! --D |
Ed: Also, perhaps you could ask Eric, if you've had previous contact with him, if it would be ok to share the drawings with me? --D

sent email David.

Hi; you sent an email to me? So far, haven't received it. Check the address again? (See above post). --D
