Turn signal/dimmer switch

I know the screen name says 944 (only because I had the 944 first..still do)but I also have a 79SC coupe. Right after I bought the car I replaced the turn signal/dimmer switch which had failed. The replacement has gone out. I have two questions the first is: From what I've heard when the switch fails it usually fails in the mode allowing only low beams. Mine is just the opposite. I only have high beams and when I apply slight pressure to the "stalk" the low beams will come back. It will also do the same when using it to make a turn. Once it cancels from the turn the high beams are back on. Is my wiring incorrect? My second question: When I bought the replacement switch it was not a match for the wiper switch. The replacement was made of metal not like the wiper switch which appears to be made of GRP (glass reinforced plastic). Does anyone know if the original switches are still available in the original configuration and material? I appreciate all the useful info you folks provide. Thanks!

The replacement switch that bought from Pelican Parts a few months ago was an exact replacment for mine. It was the plastic switch like you described.

Thanks for the help in locating an original switch. The one I bought originally to replace the defunct swich was bought for about 70 bucks...(not original configuration)from a company I can't rmember the name of but might have been Zerex. I'm sitll curious as to why it failed in the "high beam" mode.
