will a '69-'73 stock bumper fit a '65-'69 car?
i would like to replace the RS front bumper currently on my '68 911 with an original bumper. i have read the mounting hardware is different between the two different age groups(wheelbase) and mounting might be an issue. is this true? i may have a trade lined up but the other stock bumper is from a '72. i am aware of the rolled edges on the earlier bumpers and the end caps of the later bumpers. this is not a concern of mine as the PO added '69-73 flares to the car. please help me clarify.

Bob,
Looking at a catalog in the RS bumper/spoiler listing, one mounting bracket style is offered ... for all '65 thru '73 cars! That would imply there isn't any difference, and I have never heard of any. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

god bless you warren. i asked because there is mention of the vertically mounted bumpers and horizontally mounted bumpers between the two different wheelbases in the book "guide to original restoration" (white top view of P on cover). i may have someone with a '72 bumper to trade with but need to research before exchange.

I'm not sure if you will be able to link into it, but I remember reading this once:
http://www.***************/am/page_listings2.asp?c=22600&p=30865#51805 See the 'S' spoiler - it mentions differences in mounting tabs for pre/post 68/69 cars. Not sure if this affects your thinking. Cam |
