Welcome back, Leland!

Let's see ... couple of broken rockers, couple of coupler bushing replacements, a burnt valve or two, couple of oil leaks, and couple of bad valve guides, etc. ... in other words, you didn't miss out on too much fun!

Oh yeah, it rained an inch in West Texas, first since June! But, we're still 6 inches behind 'normal' rainfall for the year, so far! And, I've got a '74 915/06 transaxle to play around with in my spare time!

What's that? Charlie's in the Wire? Welcome back G-man. Did you get any bad guys? Could you tell me about it and then have to kill me?

My car has been in and out of the garage(mine). OK not much out. Anyway, a fried coil and now it appears I need a new CDI unit. Like Warren said you didn't miss much good stuff

Yeah, lets hear about it. I've been reading nothing but Tom Clancy for the last six months or so (just started "The Dragon and the Bear"), so how about some insider stories?

The UN was wild I had alot of fun, stayed in a beautiful hotel, saw lots of important people and gained alot of experience.
Then we got jumped to Boston for a rally for Gore, then we flew to Michigan for Clinton. I hate airports though.

Mark, you are describing what sounds to be the same symptoms I had last year. I was driving my car at speed and all of a sudden it just up and died. Before you go and buy new coil and CDI box, make sure that they are the culprit. I spent $600 on a new coil and CDI cause I wasn't getting any spark to my coil so I searched, searched, and searched for the cause to no avail. Finally I bought the coil and cdi and after I installed them ...still no luck. So then I had the car towed to my wrench and he spent a week and a half trying to trace the problem down.

Final culprit????
One of the small screws that hold the wire to the fuse panel had backed out and allowed the wire to my left high beam headlight to come loose and somehow kill the circuit to the coil. I still don't understand but as soon as he tightened that screw she fired right up and haven't had a problem since.

Good luck also, try looking on the permatune wb page and see if they have a trouble shooting guide on the net.

Leland,

Sounds like you were "watching" some of the same people that I was flying.

Was at Philly for the convention and flew some of the larger fish out.

Fast forward to the UN and did the same in and out... jeez, the traffic jams were wonderful? Glad I was in something with a light on it.

Just spent the night in the same hotel as Cheney in STL last week when the power went out. Backup gen did not come on and bet someone got in trouble for this one...

If you see a bald fart in the cockpit next time, stop up and say hello...

Leland,

My coil had goo running out of it. One of the post in the coil was like a loose tooth and fell out when I grabed it. The top seal on the coil had definitely let loose.

Also, Warren had me check several things and it seems to check out. At the very least, I now know the exact history of my coil and CDI unit. I did buy a perma-tune via Zims in Texas.

I'll let you knoww how it works out.

Leland! Good to have ya back. Glad you had fun and got some good OSI training. TDYs can be a lot of fun! Your per-diem must've been astronomical!

Thanks guys, its actually good to be back..which I thought I'd never say but...

Howie, I'm EOD not OSI...
NO cloak and dagger... Just explosives!!!

As far as my rebuild goes, I'm still holding off until I save up enough to buy a rebuild kit, set of head studs, and clutch kit. ($1600)
By then it should be pretty cold out and my mechanics bussiness should have slowed down a bit so he can handle a partial project like my motor.
I'm getting excited!

Then it should be about

Leland,

Ever work with a "jarhead" named "boomer" out of Nellis/Las Wages area? He was our EOD guy while in Riyadh... one of the best but he was somewhat different... guess he had sniffed too much of the C-4 from time to time. Excellent guy BTW... really knew his stuff!

Ruf... I would have made a bit of money in NY if I hadn't spent all my "per diem" drinking and sight seeing. That has got to be the most expensive place I have ever been. I pretty much broke even.
Joeaksa, I don't know that many Marines but if I ever run across him I'll tell him you said: "WASSABBI"!!
Marines are usually pretty goo with range work coz they'll pick almost anything up!
