Pick the 911 Targa Koenig Umbau...

Isn't it the worst piece of junk you've ever seen? Look at the rear lights. Maybe they got them from a Saab?

I have no idea where those lights came from. It looks like the car is about to bend in half - it's sagging in the middle.

Check this out though - the translation of the ad:

"Porsche 911, Targa, king conversion kit again (23,900, -)Softtop in the back, Goti rims with broad tyre: 9x15, 225/50 in front and 13x15, 345/35 in the back, quite again paints with special lacquer green, a REMARKABLE AUTO!!! Total costs with lacquer finish and wheels has a value of approx. 55,000, - DM of prices original from companies king Specials, pictures are file pictures, so that one can present it it like the change looks itself. Vehicle will have only still fertiggestellt.Wir still another BI T "

Have to agree. Guy must have been tripping when he planned that conversion.

Koenig did several of these in the late '80's and very early '90's. He did this to Ferrari's and Mercs as well. Remember the Testarossa based Competition Evolution? He was one of the better tuners. Gemballa did very similar things in the same era. It was the times of wretched excess.

They were the big tuners for super cars when I was in high school. They were very well done conversions in their time. Couldn't compare to RUF for timelessness though.

As long as it doesn't happen anymore I wont complain

Gary you are right. I had just forgotten how ugly this converted 911 was and then I stumbled over this ad. Gemballa made one just as awful. It was called the Gemballa Avalanche. How could he do that to a 911? The only thing about the Avalanche that was even remotely cool was its exhaust pipes (although they were quite overdone in their design). Now could anyone find a picture of the Gemballa?

Mikkel I think one of the recent editions of the Dupont Registry had the picture you're looking for (Avalanche). Kinda hideous but maybe right for the time!!!
