Anderson/Woods Tune-up/Maint. Class

I attended the Bruce Anderson-Jerry Woods 911 Tune-up/Maintenance class today. It's a decent overview for a noob like me, but certainly nothing for the experts out there.

Jerry went solo, as Bruce was unfortunately ill and unable to be there today. Hopefully he's feeling better soon.

I now know many more ways I can screw up my car that will cause me to come crying to this forum for help.

I attended as well. I've done a top end rebuild and have just about taken every piece of my project car apart and I still came away with lots of excellent nuggets. Definitely a worthwhile way to spend time.

I took the class a few years ago and learned a lot. I highly recommend it to any new 911 owner.

What did the Tune-up class cost?

TWork 12-10-2006 06:48 AM

What was it that you thought was lacking in the class?

I realize these are specific to certain model years, but covering timing, dwell, idle speed and air/fuel mixture would have been nice. These are tune-up items that are relevant to a significant number (the majority?) of air-cooled 911's, I believe.

How many students were in the class? It seems like a student to teacher ratio of about 5 to 1 would be the most that you could have and still make it really useful.

How long is the class?

Also, is it in Plymouth, CA?

TWork 01-05-2007 09:18 PM

The class was Cambell, CA -- SF Bay area. I think Bruce lives in Plymouth, which is in the foothills of CA -- about 3 hours away. There were about 10 students. Bruce was sick for our session, but sounds like typically both Bruce and Jerry are there. Class is roughly 9-3.

Anything like this in or near L.A.?

I just got part 1 of a big parts order from our host today.

Although I don't think I'll have any problem doing an oil change (especially having read the many posts on this forum), it'd be nice to have real instruction starting from the basics and then moving on to the more involved stuff.

Otto has offered to let me hang out and watch while his shop works on my car, but I'm not sure I'd survive that long with him. ;)

. . .

The class is just a short 5 hour drive north (at 100+). :D

In other words it is the only show in town. It is well worth the trip. There were only 6 people in the class that I took. I was surprised that I was the only one who showed up in a Porsche!

Thanks TWork. Did you mean Campbell (in Santa Clara County)? I can't find a Cambell on Mapquest.
