3.0 valve job break in?

i have just got my 82 SC 3.0 back from the shop after six weeks. i had asked for the valve guides to be replaced as it was smoking at start up.
When it was done they advised me that they had replaced all exhaust valves and had done a valve job. They also replaced one piston ring as it was broken, they did say there was very little wear through out the engine which now has 202k miles. also replaced was the timing chain and guide rails and they resealed the engine, along with several other updates.

they have advised me not to rev the engine above 4k and not to down shift? the 4k i understand but i don't quite get the down shift. what is the proper way to break in this engine?

Sounds like they want you to take it easy as the chains settle back in?, -did you have or did they upgrade to carerra tensioners? sounds like maybe not?

That's my best guess, aside from the standard "all those metal parts need to wear in before you push it to hard.."

the tensioner were upgraded years ago. the downshifting just doesn't make sense to me yet.

i don't see why you shouldn't. there's really no break-in period for anything except rings, which you didn't get.

Sounds like they did the right thing s ..replacing the exhaust valves to me is cheaper then making old tired ones go an other round.
Is it possible you misunderstood someone ?

I imagine their thought is if you down shift you may exceed 4,000 rpms.
