Fuel leak
there is a hose that goes from the fuel pump to a fitting which connects the hose that runs through the tunnel. my question is how are these hoses attached to the fitting? on the fuel pump side there is a hose clamp but it is a different fitting on the other end. The hose appears to be about 7 inches. thanks in advance for any advise on disconnecting and suggestions for replacing.

Rob,
It sounds like you are talking about a swaged fitting ... basically a soft-steel 'cup' or ring that is crimped over the fabric-covered rubber hose to hold it in place on the barbed end of the steel fuel line. I have cut many of those crimps off with a hacksaw, making a pair of diagonal cuts on opposite sides, but not usually with the line still on the car ... you might try heavy 9" side cutters. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

thanks warren,
It looks like if I try to seperate the fitting from the rubber section going into the tunnel that I would damage the little bit of rubber that is there. I guess if I cut the crimp then I just have to recrimp the new cloth/rubber section onto the remaining piece of the fitting. I'm wondering if the rubber section going into the tunnel terminates into a steel line and would be a better place to disconnect? Is it possible to access the front section of the tunnel, possibly from inside the car? [This message has been edited by robfix (edited 10-02-2000).] |
