1979 SC Pressure Plate bolts

In the 101 projects book, Clutch replacement (about pg 35?), I think it says to torque these bolts to 66 ft/lbs, but I've snapped a set (thinking my uncalibrated toque wrench was wrong), so I used a calibrated one, and am at 45 ft lbs, and they feel like they're going to snap. Am I reading this wrong? I'm at work so I'm working from memory-not always accurate, but what should the torque value be for these M8 bolts? Is it 18ft/lbs as I read in another string? Please double-check the book, there may be an error there.

thanks,

Bob

i think it is 14.5 ftlbs. the flywheel bolts are 66. you sure you are taking apples to apples?

(again, i am borderline jittery from coffee and paperwork, check these numbers)

Pressure plates bolts are low torque, flywheel bolt high torque!

back off on them; remove and discard any that went up way high on torque & replace w/new

Bob,

Those pressure plate bolts are the only DIN 8.8 Allen bolts I have ever encountered on a 911, so the 'normal' torque spec would be 18 lb-ft ... it is no wonder they are about to yield at 45 lb-ft!
