clunking sound

Have a 72 2.4 E, After heating up, I hear a clunking sound from the engine during neutral. I can feel the vibration from the clunking in the cabin. Any body have any idea? I suspect that ita has something to do with a throw out bearing? Is that right?

The sound and vibration goes away when in gear or running and comes back now and then when neutral. Anybody have any ideas? Is this serious?

Have someone pull the valve covers and see if any headstuds are broken or rockers

Ok, would that cause the clunking? It happens only at neutral.

What about checking your motor and/or transmission mounts for excessive wear?
