Front speaker pods 4 early porsche
Hi all,
The full resto of my 71 S is now nearing completion and the new signal orange paint glows !! and with the original tan interior it looks very period. My attention last night turned to the stearo, I know the 2.2 motor behind me should be enough but sometimes a little sing along goes down well. Anyway I don't want to cut any panels or alter any parts so I was wondering if anyone has heard of any speaker pods (or something similar) which could fit up under the dash. I've seen these for VW's they fit 5inch round speakers.. Has anyone seen these for an early porsche'.... Thanks in advance Alan.UK |

Country driving sounds good although I still have to re-assemble my fan etc. In fact I'm still trying to separate my alternator / fan housing - its proving tough work.
By way of curiosity, did you get your fan + housing etc powder coated? I am thinking of sending mine along as well and then painting / polishing afterwards - what do you reckon? Gareth

i don't know of anything premade for under the dash.
i have custom built pods (boxes) out of fiberglass to accomodate many different speakers in many different cars, it can be done but will it is considered "custom work" so you'll pay a pretty penny to get it done, most of the high end car audio shops (or ICE shops in europe as the call it) can do this, but make sure you goto a reputable shop, if they don't have proof (pics/current projects) to show their fiberglass skills i wouldn't trust them with your p-car. post some pics of a 71 underdash and maybe i can figure something out for you, or at least get you pointed in the correct dirrection.

Hello
There is the Moch Underdashunit http://www.moch-1.com/UNDERDASH.htm You also can make the short frontdoorpockets with speakermounts. ( this option was aviable from the factory yet I only had seen it oonce coming with a RS prototype ) The superflat panasonic with Ĝ 130mm fit without cuting a hole into the door. Grüsse |

Resurrected this old-azz thread since it has the link and to ask if anyone has used this piece?
I just received Kenwood Excelon 6-3/4" speakers (KFC-X170's) for my '76S and wouldn't mind finding some place other than my newly redone door panels to put them. $300+ shipped for this is a lot. Plus, since my interior is now a (slightly) custom color from the original Cork, I would likely have to go to Leatherique to get a spray dye (really paint isn't it?) to spray this thing to match. All in all, a hassle but I am willing to do it if this works well and doesn't look like a tacked on, Pep-Boys thing. Anyone?

I have not heard this and it is not really stereo but no cutting.
Perhaps a good center channel.... What are you early car guys doing about the dash speaker? Ed |

To do it right (as right as possible) mount tweeters only in the corners of the dash - where it meets the windshield's lower corner. You'll need to fab. a small enclosure.
I tossed out/sold the Moch unit a PO put in my '75 - it is a poor mounting for several reasons. It's only adv. is that it conceals the speakers.

Kick panel "pods" are easy enough to make. You just line the floor area with plastic, foil, duct tape, whatever, and then lay in 'glass. After you pop that molded piece out, you cut out a baffle from MDF to hold the driver, then attach it to the molded base. Wrap the whole thing in fleece, add resin and more glass, trim, bondo, sand, and paint or wrap in carpet or whatever. Same goes for making custom-fit sub enclosures, only difference is you need to figure out your volume and possibly porting.

Oh, and don't mount your tweeters up on the dash when your mids are down on the floor... please... And for the love of god get rid of those rear fill speakers. Since when is half the band sitting in the back of the room? :P
