different distributors

Can someone tell me the difference between Bosch Distributors: # 0 231 184 004 and # 0 231 184 001? Will either perform well in a 3.0 build? Thank you!

Jon,

0.231.184.001 is a generic 2.7 CIS distributor with same specs and rev-limiter rotor as the 2.4 911T.

0.231.184.004 is a replacement distributor for the 1973 - 76 911/83 MFI engine used in the '73 RS 2.7 and ROW '74 - '76 2.7 Carrera ... the 2.7 distributors can't be used in '78 or later engines unless the crank drive gear is replaced with an earlier gear, since it turns in the opposite direction as '78 - '89 distributors! With the noted change in drive gear ... the RS distributor is ideal for a high-performance 3.0 equipped with MFI or carbs!

Thank you Warren. That's exactly what I needed to know.

Warren, I think the direction changed again with the 3.2. The 78-83 motors are the ones that turn the other way.

Cheers
