911 turbo flywheels

Can a 80-89 turbo flywheel be run on A 79 turbo?
What is the main difference between the years as far as flywheels?
I am planning on running an 80-88 turbo flywheel on my 3.0 case based 3.7 race engine, on a G50 gearbox. I am running MOTEC, so I need a 60 tooth ring gear, and I think the 80-88 turbo is the way to go.
thoughts?

I don't remember the corresponding years but the early Turbo was 3.0 and used the 6 bolt crankshaft. I thought it was earlier than '79.
