Yes, and in fact the heat if you need it will be better since the stainless they use heats up faster.

89911,
do they warm up faster due to being made from stainless steel or because of the somewhat simpler shape/construction (no crossover tube or pre muffler)?? |

Adam,
Nah. The air inlet openings for SSI exchangers will not work with your current setup. You need to get the stainless heater pipe in front of the muffler modified so that the flexible connector pipes will connect to the SSIs. Auto Motion in NJ can do it for $160. Ned |

Is it possible to do this mod at home, surely all they need to do is bend / cut the original heater crossover pipe?

could you clarify for me? is it the ssi's, themselves, or another part off of my car that needs to be modified? thanks! ------------------ Adam Nitti ajnitti@mindspring.com www.adamnitti.com '85 911 Carrera Coupe [This message has been edited by adamnitti (edited 10-07-2000).] |

Sure, can be done, however the air pipe is thin wall stainless. Not easy. The mod cuts off the pipe near the passenger side, and the resulting horizontal run is connected by flex hose to the pass. side exchanger. On the drivers side, cut a hole and weld in the right angle pipe just cut from the pass. side. The flex tube will connect this to the drivers side exchanger. Then blank off the original drivers side air outlet!

Adam,
Look under the car and you will see the pipe in front of the muffler. It connects to the big plastic pipe that passes the distributor on the way down. The ends connect below to the heat exchangers. Ned |
