Turbo Tail Question
I'm mounting an eary 930 tail and deck lid on my soon-to-be-930-flared '74 911.
There are now 2 openings that need some type of grille. Does the opening in the deck lid take a standard non/tail grille? Or is the grille some special type having to do with the tail? Also, the leaf screen that goes in the upper part of the tail - I'm having trouble finding the part individually. Does anyone know of a source? Thanks for anyone's help. |

Motion - you don't need a grill on the original deck lid unless you want one for asthetics. I've had a few different types of wings and none had the leaf screen so I made one from black window screen. It looks perfect and functions as well.

Yes, but there is a big hole there! I guess the rain just goes through the tail onto the engine?

Maybe I'm missunderstanding you. The tails I have used were the bolt onto the current decklid type. I removed the stock grill, then fitted and bolted the new tail onto the existing lid. The existing lid now has a large hole (nice for airflow). The tail gets a grill and leafscreen. I haven't had any troubles with water in the engine, the new grill/screen on the new tail is just like the old grill/screen on the old lid.

I think there might some confusion about which type of tail...If you're talking about the very first whale tail, early turbo style, I have that one. It's the tail that is integral to the deck lid. Is that the one you have?
If so, it uses the standard engine lid grille, in the original location. It sounds as if you have that one AND that you have a second opening? If so, that sounds like the true turbo style. Is it a smaller opening? If it is, I think I've seen that smaller grille available through MA Shaw or Better Bodies. Greg |
