Save more money......

Seriously, at that price even if you are an accomplished DIY'er you could very easily spend that much again in the first 6-12 months for a car coming in at that price. Make your first experience (I assume) a positive one and save some more before you dive in. I'm no brain surgeon, you should be able to search here and see similar advice given time and time again....

An $8,000 911 is either the deal of the century or not worth having.

I forget who said it first, but your question brought this thought to mind:

"Every Porsche is a $30K car."

I've heard a $20K car, but $30K is more realistic.

you can find something for that much. Will either need a fair amount of work or be unoriginal (in porsche terms "worthless"). If you find a car with upgraded bumpers and a newer engine the value has likely gone down. If your going for an original car, look to spend more. A decent SC 78-82 can be had for around 10-12k in pretty decent shape and are very solid cars.

Please don't tell me it is $30K instead of $20K! I am nearing the $20K mark and I thought I was almost done.

Actually, now that I think about it and the projects still on my list.... $30K may be right.

And I'm doing it myself. It would probably be $50-60K if I was paying someone else.

P.S. I started with an $11.5K car that was pretty solid. Now it is more solid and has cold A/C.

I picked up a 77S Targa, not running well, needing about 1K worth of engine work (myself) and some paint on the rear bonnet. It runs great, has all the updates, and will make a fine driver. It was in the same family since new (documented), and has 75K miles.

Im in for just under 7K total. Dont be too quick to spend your money and watch out, there are many pitfalls. If you can't do most of the engine work yourself, and you're on a tight budget, dont bother with a 911.

Welcome back, Brian. It's been a while. I guess we've both moved beyond 993 ownership.

Anyway, with $8k, you're probably going to get a mid-year or maybe an SC. Good luck with the search.

I have my eye on a couple. I want a decent runner I can tinker with. As a few of us know I have owned several. I do currently have a sports car but not a Pcar. I really miss owning one. I would like a nice coupe.

I have been in contact with several people already and I hope to have something as early as next month.
