Option codes...where are they?
When looking at 911s, I know where to find the assorted serial numbers, but where can I find the option codes when checking for originality of a vehichle?
Thanks in advance, Bill Wagner |
In the book "Original Porsche 911" by Peter Morgan you can not only find all the color codes, accessorie codes etc.. but it is a wonderful book to read as well.

If you mean the option codes of your particular car, I think the only way is to get the Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche (PCNA). I found the following (possibly way out of date) information on the web:

I've also been told it's $40. I haven't done it, because it seems to be about $30-$40 more expensive than it ought to be. But one of these days, I may. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T sunroof coupe [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 10-09-2000).] |
Jack, save you money. I was expecting something more then an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper with a few lines of things I already knew. If you have you original owners manual, everything is there. Suitable for framing, yeah, right.

You can get the applicable option codes for any P car for free by calling PCNA at 1-800-545-8039. Give them the VIN# and they will tell you in less than a minute what you have. If you have the engine serial number they can tell you if it goes with the VIN# you gave them. They are very helpful folks. The option codes themselves are on the VIN labels. The Performance Handbook by Bruce Anderson has a list of the option codes and there is a decoder at www.kindel.com/porsche/default.asp.

You can find the actual #'s on your vehicle printed upon an small sticker (about 3"x3") under your front hood. Bruce Andersons book does give the option codes... but it's easy to call PCNA to get a "verbal" description from them.
