CLICK.....clutch pedal harder to push&less smooth all of the sudden

On my way to work this morning; (30 miles) I had a little clutch problem. While exiting the freeway; I pushed on the clutch, felt and heard a small click (or snap maybe)........My pedal was a little tougher to press on but the clutch still functioned O.K.........
My work is about 3 miles from the freeway and required about a dozen gear changes to get there.........Honestly I was a little nervous I might not make it there but it didn't seem to get any worse on the way.
If the clutch helper spring broke; would the clutch still function?
There is freezing fog on the ground (looks like snow), so I haven't been able to climb under and look but the suspence is killing me........anyone ever had the click/harder to press clutch prob?????

Lot's of info about clutch issues on this board, do a search.
Could be lots of things with pedal cluster, cable, release fork, etc.
Until you climb under, check, adjust and lube, it's just wild guessing.
If it's a really old cable, replace.

My bet is you need a new cable. These are consumables and should be replaced routinely as preventive maintenance.

It's amazing how light the clutch feels when you put in a new cable and adjust properly. It slowly gets heavier as the cable wears.

What year car do you have? My car did this right before the clutch cable snapped. When I replaced the cable I found the clutch helper spring on the pedal cluster was broken and looked to have been that way for some time. I would recommend that you check the cable/spring assembly and plan on replacing the clutch cable ASAP, it's not hard to do, but it requires patience and small fingers!

Art, my car is a 1984 Carrera...just turned 80k this week. Well sorted w/ new clutch cable and rebuilt pedal assembly less than 8k ago....(off the top of my head without going back through the records). Clutch was super easy to engage until this morning when I felt that little snap. There is no added play in the clutch and no grinding gears.....It's just harder to push the pedal.

Probably bent the clevis pin down next to your pedal cluster. It fixes the cable to the arm of the pedal cluster. It will break eventually so better get it done beforehand. Reasonable priced part. HTH

Chuck - any thoughts on years/miles to do a replacement?
