Pertronix Ignitor (1976 911S) need help installing
I own a 1976 911S the instructions that came in the Pertronix Ignitor box are not specific. I'm lost to the part that says to attach the black wire to the negative side of the coil. The coil has no negative symbol on it, it has an A and B. Which is the ngative? Also am I suppose to splice into the existing quick-release "looking" connectors, of which the tach wire is somewhere in these connectors. Help! hELP!

This may not help much, but my mechanic just removed the brand-new Pertronix from my '74 that was just converted from CIS to Webers and as soon as he put in the points, the ignition problems went away. We were seeing high RPM "drop outs", rough idling, surging, etc... As soon as Tab replaced the Pertronix with points, everything was back to normal. This was a brand-new Pertronix and I've got two that I just bought last summer and the car didn't run correctly with either one. Just something to think about... BTW, I have a Bosch CD unit and the engine is stock, except it now has Webers instead of CIS.

If you will do a search, you will find some very good wiring diagrams and pictures of the pertronix ignitor installation procedures.
I had just the opposite experience per the above. After installing the ignitor all my ignition problems went away and I haven't touched the ignition system in over 3 years now. |
Lou,
I'll make you a deal... pay for my plane fare to Oahu and I'll fix the car for you!!! |
Besides the dozens of threads you will find on Pelican here which deal with the Pertronix Ignitor, there is also some good information at these two sites.

David E. Clark, you are the man! Thank you so much for your efforts in forwarding the diagram, I'll post the results as I will venture into the rear-deck of my 76 911S tomorrow morning while I listen to the 15 foot waves crash into the beach in the background.

Great! Back in 80's when I was on active duty in the Air Force I spent quite a bit of time at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station. You live in a SWEET place! :D
