Factory Manual Alternatives?
 

Well I am trying to dive head first into the empty swimming pool of DIY porsche madness

So I am buying the Haynes book, anderson's etc...

So I go to Bentley Publication's website and I see that there is a manual for 911SC's coming out....

i know they have one for the 964's (1984-993's) years..

How are these books, do they stack up to the factory manuals? Are they better?

They are cheaper...without having to buy earlier manuals to complete a set...

oh yeah they say available December 1st...there is a mailing list you can put yourself on to be notified

I'm looking at buying a Porsche. I've narrowed my search down to the 3.2L Carreras and the 964s. I ordered the Bentley manual from Barnes&Noble for about $35.00 plus shipping (this was a fluke, but B&N honored their error...it's now listing for about $95.00 I think...B&N will get ALL my business from now on!). From most of what I've heard, it's a really good book, but not perfect.

I don't think Bentley has manuals for the 964s or the 993s, but if I understand the Porsche documentation process, you're supposed to have all the preceding years of manuals to make a complete set. This certainly makes sense for models up to the 3.2L Carreras, but does anyone know if this is really true for the 964s and 993s?

The factory manual set for the 964 is a seven volume set that does not need information from prior years/models.
