Quarter window leaking despite new seal
 

Anyone else have this problem? I just replaced the seal on one of my pop-out quarter windows in order to address a fairly significant leak. It's still leaking.

When water hits the top of the window toward the back of the car (which sticks out past the rain gutter), it leaks into the car and down to the floor. I drive the car daily in Oregon, which means I see a lot of rain, so this is a big issue for me.

First off, thanks for the headlight rings - Much better than the description and pic's!

Regarding your issue, I had the same problem after I installed the gaskets that I bought from our host.

The lip of the gasket did not seal completely up against the body in the area you describe. I used a heat gun set low to "gently" persuade the rubber to become more plyable and conform to the body - careful not to heat/damage your paint or the gasket around the glass!

In addition, you may want to push in on your window and try and gauge the distance it moves inward. If the seal looks like it improves by pushing in say a 1/16th of an inch, use material of the same thickness and make a gasket for the bottom (mounting point) of the window latch. The idea is to pull the latch inward so that when you latch the window, it pulls in a little more - making a better seal at the body.

Lastly, make sure the water isn't coming from the corners of the rear window...mine leaked at the bottom corner and the water found a path down the side of the rear tray, down the side of the quarter onto the bottom of the rear seat deck.

PS - A dab of vaseline around the inside of the seal lip may help temporarily - to keep the water out.
