A tap...... if it is a threaded hole you are talking about.

Depends on how heavy ... dental pick and Brakleen works for the small chunks.

I had some stuck in the head stud threads, nothing really worked for getting down in there, so I heated the hole with my torch and ran a thread chaser in. The chaser removed all of it in a hot goopy clump.

Do not use a regular tap; it will damage the threads. Use a thread chasing tap available at Sears in sets or individually from Snap-On.
