SC Distributor Help
 

I need a little help. I have a SC Bosch distributor #0237304016
PGFU6. I see in PET there are two different distributors available for pre 80 and post 80 SC's. I don't know which 3.0 case I have and I can't tell which distributor I have.

However, the distributor I have is too long. The gears engage, but it is sticking out about 1/2" too far. The o-ring is rioght at the top of the opening and the flange to adjust timing is about 1/2" above the case.

A google search of that number comes up listed as 80-83 on a site that is a competitor to Wayne, so I won't post the link.

The case doesn't have an engine type number or serial number on it?

You sure the O-ring isn't just binding on the opening? They can be a b1tch to get in, especially if the O-ring is new and/or dry.

I am pretty sure the only difference between the early and late SC distributors is the advance curve and the vac advance unit. Early is advance only, late is advance and retard.

I agree with Tom on the o-ring hanging up. The gear is not fully seated as you think, John. You're just starting to engage.

The later dizzy came with retard and advance while the early dizzy only have advance.

It's definitely bottomed out. I can't get it down any further and the gears engage about 1/2" from where it stops so I'm confident it is all the way in.
I guess I need the earlier SC distributot, but I'd sure like to know before I go and hunt for one.

the dizzys are the same length they are interchangable and how to tell what you have is the 2 fittings on the advance/retard indicate 80-83 and if only one it is 78-79

Your problem is not making sense. The SC only uses one type of housing and the 016 can fit all models from the 2.4 to the 3.6 provided that the appropriate driving gear is used. Post some pics if you can and explain how you are sure it is in all the way.

Turns out I'm a moron for Christmas. I had to push much harder than I though to get it in, but I finally really leaned on it and in it went. All good.

Be careful putting in the distributor. If the o-ring binds and you use the bolt to pull it down, you can break the flange off the housing. Don't ask how I know this.
