Please Help!!!

I am posting this thread a second time regarding the difficulty I am having trying to solve a clearance problem with the installation of a mini hightorque starter on my 1980 911.

The solenoid is larger than the stock one and I cannot get the bottom end of the flex tube connected to the heat exchanger.

Can somebody in this forum tell me or connect me to an expert that can provide a solution to this problem. PLEASE!

David Thomas

It's a tight fit, I removed it from the heater box and connected the heat exchanger side first. It looks like ot won't fit but it does.

Thank you. I guess I'll have to pull the starter, connect the tube, then reinstall the starter. You would think that if they made after market parts for these cars they would take things like this into consideration.

I agree, I was as shocked as you that it hat fitting issues. IN the end however think you're going to like it, they really do crank a lot faster than the Bosch starter.

I know what you mean. I have had these types of starters on two of my previous motorhomes. They are virtually bullet proof. They work well with the heat generated from headers so one will have no more hot start problems and they just all around sound better.

I was looking at the, I guess it was either the accessories or parts area of this site and saw those stainless steel heat exchangers. for $945.00 those would be nice!

Perhaps Santa will remember me next year for a set of those.

Happy holidays.

I need a set of SSI's as well. I'm in the middle of a complete rebuild on a warmed over 3.0L that's pretty much going to require SSI's.
