Stupid drivers and getting worse----

Getting off the freeway and the off ramp has 2 right turn lanes. Normally i would use the far right lane but it was full so i got in the second lane. The light turned green so with caution i made my turn. Suddenly the pickup in the right lane turned into my lane. Got on the brakes and horn, to late he clipped my front bumper. I pulled over and got out to beat the guy to death and he said "what the hell was i doing in his lane" I couldn't believe the guy had no clue that he had just done something very wrong . I decided then that the damage wasn't bad and got his info and went on my way. I probably will just fix the damage my self and forget about it. A new cooler scoop { i probably have about a hundred in stock} and i have a spare lens so it won't cost me any out of pocket and i won't have to deal with the insurance co and all that bs. 20 years ago i would have tried to nail the guy but any more its just not worth the trouble. You can punish one and thousands of other very bad drivers come along behind them.

That suks. Sorry to see that. I can't believe how many people actually don't know that you can't change lanes in an intersection. For some reason they can't figure out two turn lanes. If I were you I'd have his insurance pay for it.

Call your insurance anyway. Otherwise, he'll claim you were at fault, hit him, and you are responsible.

Been there, done that. Thank god I had a witness....

There was no damage to his pickup at all. His left rear tire hit my scoop , there was barley a mark on his tire.
I fixed it already. A new scoop off the shelf and an old lens from my parts stash and 10 minuets , its done. Its just a shame that he will probably do this again to someone else. My neighbor said that back in Jersey they had a way to deal with the guy.

JMPro,
sorry for loosing a lense
I hate it when people drive like an ass then turn around swearing "inside their cars".
Why don't you apologize, ask him to stop for a coffee, then take him behide some buildings and knock him down.

He probably did not know you can make right turn as well. He might think he owns two right lanes. He can either turn on his lane or yours.

Yeah. An assault charge and some court time would be WAAAAAY cheaper than a turn signal lens.
You guys sure watch a lot of Mob movies or something.

I'm convinced many, many drivers drive as though they have horse blinders on them. They are unaware and completely oblivious to any one not immediately in front of them...and even then most times.

Driving a 911 in in-town traffic in L.A. where every other car is an SUV takes a toll on your nerves. Frankly? Most of the time it ain't worth it. I use my car on weekends and late night runs out to O.C. along the 210 and the 57 Fwy's.

Sounds to me like the time I was intent on the same thing until I saw the size of the dude when he emerged from his car.

I'm glad you felt charitable today. It will come back to you as a favor by someone else, I hope. My thing is to not even drive any more. I can't stand it out there. Between dawn and 11 AM Sat and Sun are the only times I really drive the 911.

I have to say that since moving to the Bay Area 2 years ago I am far less stressed from time on the road than I was in Southern CA (mostly OC and LA). That's not to say that we don't have stupid drivers here, just less of them.

My very first mod upon getting my car:

I blew it at a cement truck who was merging into my lane. The guy jumped out of his seat.

Just today, I was forced into oncoming traffic by a large pickup. Fortunately, it turned out okay. I was in the left lane and he was in the right lane behind the car next to me, just before both lanes merged into one. It's always been a courtesy thing to me, so I slowed to allow the car next to me in front and expected him to allow me the same courtesy. At the last second, he races up inches behind the car next to me so I can't merge and I'm forced into oncoming traffic (30 mph limit and wide lanes, so not TOO scary). The car I was trying merge behind was slowing to make a right turn and was almost rear ended by this maniac. I couldn't get around him (due to oncoming traffic) so the truck blasts past within a couple inches of me. I get myself out of the wrong lane and get behind him. I try to back off him, but he's going only 25mph. We get to a 50mph zone and he's going 40. I finally get a chance to pass, and he tries to force me into the left hand shoulder!!! When I gun it and pass him (no oncoming, fortunately), he returns the favor and passes me at around 70, then resumes just barely under the speed limit. When he finally turnes into a gas station, I follow him (yea, I'm getting a little too brave and angry for my own good). I pull up next to him and gives me this blank look like he's never seen be before. Finally, I say my peace, he his peace, we apologize and we wish each other a happy holiday. Thank Jesus Christmas it didn't turn into something bad...

Rant over...

Happy Holidays everyone, and give wide berth to the idiots out there!

Shoulder checking is what people with nice cars do. If you drive a big 'ol nasty piece of junk why would you? The nice car will get out of the way for you.

Well, what could I have REALLY done? All the smilies you post express my true wishes, but no matter what I did or said, he still would have been the same a-hole in the end. You can't change people that easily (just ask any wife). I did have my son in the Porsche and refuse to subject him to what I really wanted to say and do. He did apologize first and multiple times and when it really comes down to it, I'm a wimp.

When did a turn signal become an indicator to speed up? I see this all the time. As soon as some one turn it on the person in the next lane will speed up to close the gap. Something else along the same line. The best way to get the person in front of you to speed up is act as if you're going to pass them. Just my part of this morning's rant

Signals still work here in Oregon - people will often let you in with a signal. It is fading out tho as people from 'more urbanized areas' move in...

What could you have done? Write down his license plate # & call the cops re aggressive driving - some places will crack down hard on it. Not saying they will pull him over, but he may get eyeball to eyeball with a patrol cop for a while. Depends on where you live.

There is one bummer......Did you know that an insurance company will increase your rates if you have too many "not your fault accidents"? Apparently, they feel you are a bad risk if you are in the wrong place too many times.

I try to settle any problems with the other driver unless I get bad vibes. Years ago I did have a guy back into me and pleaded with me not to call the cops. He said he would pay for everything and I said OK. After he left, I had that bad feeling......I stopped by the local police station and filed a report.....good thing, when I called him with the $$ estimate, he said I ran into him. Luckily there was a witness and the police report. He eventually paid. Some people suck.....

Driving a motorcycle teaches you about all the stupid drivers. You learn to expect everything and anything (or you die). You assume everyone will pull in your lane. It's a good policy to have in a car as well!
