suggestions for f/g IROC rear spoiler

I need an IROC or Carrera-type one piece rear decklid/spoiler for my race car. I've been looking at the Rennspeed and Shaw products. I have been very happy with my Shaw bumpers, but his stuff is not cheap. There is a difference of $350 between the two companies.

Anyone have experience with either the Rennspeed or Shaw IROC decklid/spoiler, or other companies? Any suppliers that you would suggest?

Rennspeed ($400):

MA Shaw ($750):

If anyone happens to have a used one in good condition please pm me.

Thanks,

Jeff

I bought one from Rennspeed. I haven't mounted it yet.
It is more accurate (note the small grill on the back of the wing).

I have had good experience with Rennspeed in the past (RS splitters for my 993 fit perfectly) and Getty (MA Shaw) with my 3.8 RS CF wing so..

In this case I'd save a few bucks and go with the Renspeed one.

Thanks Matteo, I'll be interested to hear how it fits when you get around to installing it.

Can you use the original decklid hardware with the Rennspeed piece (latch and hinges)?

What IS that little grill opening for anyway? I assume that you need to source the piece that gets inserted there separately?

I will certainly give you my impressions once it is installed.

As per mounting hardware I believe you can retain the OEM latch and struts. I am going to use the race-car clips instead of the latch.

I think the little grill was for the transmission cooler and was there for the homologation for the RSRs.

I am not sure what I am going to use to cover it. It increases drag and diminish the efficiency of the tail

If I wind up buying one with that extra hole, I'll probalby cover it with a solid piece of black anodized aluminum or have the paint shop glass it over.

either one takes work to make it fit really right. The Rennspeed unit is made by AIR and unless there is a new mold, it will take a LOT more work to make it fit

The problem with both is that the molds are fairly old and been used so much. The molds move around over time , hence the odd fitting parts. If you get the later AIR RSR version of the whale tail (it has a 3.3 turbo style top deck) it fits much better than the oe style IROC. If you wish to keep the car more period correct, then the MA Shaw/ Getty is the one to get (that's what we did on our clients cars)

No input on the GT Racing part- I have not seen one that was delivered with no fitting yet

btw- the car pictured above is our RS 3.0 with extended flares. Currently in some one else's ownership - sniff!

The one I used from AIR is 1st rate and the fit was good with the stock hardware....no problems. ( I used the one with the "late grill" already molded in)

TRE Cup - thanks very much for the info!

rouxroux - is that an IROC tail or a Carrera tail?

its an iroc tail with the 3.3 louver section as part of the upper deck. As i stated earlier- this is a much fresher mold , so the parts tend to fit a lot better

jaydubya, that's it! Smooth piece w/o the need for an additional grill. No problems at all with mine.

Great! I think I'll give the AIR piece a try.

Did you fit it yourself? Any grinding or filling needed? This will be my first f/g piece to fit myself - a local shop installed my bumpers. My thought is to get it fitted and all mounted up correctly in position, then remove it and take it to the paint shop along with my old decklid and have them match the paint.

Cheers,

Jeff

Jeff,
There was MINIMAL prep needed. You have the right idea, fit it up and then take it in for paint. I was amazed at the fit! I could use some screw-in "hood bumper shims" to make it "perfectly even", but both sides are within 1/8" from level at the bottom with the lid closed with NO shims whatsoever.

I think AIR makes the one Peter at Rennspeed sells.

Cheers

Yes, exactly.
As I said I have not mounted the tail on the car yet. I'll report the findings once the process is over.
