Tweeks Parts Ripoff

I have a 72 911E. I ordered what I thought were stock ignition wires with the stainless steel wire braid covers. Why did I think this? Because that is what they have pictured in their parts catalog just above the part number. These cost me $129.95. What I got were wires with no wire braid covers. I called and asked about this. Their response was "Oh, I don't think your year car had those." To which I replied, that (wire braid covers) is what is on there and that is what I ordered. I could have got the non-covered ignition wires alot cheaper elsewhere. To which they replied "Sorry, but you got what you ordered." Is it just me, or does this seem like bait and switch? Has anyone else had problems with Tweeks?

Return them. You don't need the braided. You can get original BERU wires for $69 from Vertex which are either OEM or very, very close.

I have ordered alot from Tweeks since I got this older 911. So far they have come through on parts and were helpful in the service department. I am sure they will accept the cables back or give you a credit. You can always try Automotion, Automobile Atlanta, Vertex, PAP, Performance Products, Stoddards and of course Pelican Parts if you want to try someone new. They are all fairly competitive but some of these folks claim to sell "OE" and they wind up being inferior to OEM.

I don't think your claim has much validity, since the picture you cite is DIRECTLTY ABOVE 23 listngs for plug wires, the first being for 356A/B/C, and you probably won't be able to get away with the ignorance claim if you order Pelican's OEM '65-'73 wire set for $126.30, and try to convince them they really need to send you the $203.10 stainless braided set!!!

Trying to imply any mistake or ripoff on Tweeks' part is a bit disingenuous! You clearly got an OEM wire set correct for your car, and any complaints based on what 'you expected to get' is most likely to fall on deaf ears from any Porsche parts supplier anywhere in the world! If you had a '74 model with CIS, you might have a claim, since there is a typographical error in Tweeks' catalog that might cause confusion in the case of a novice 911 owner, but even most know that the '74 wires aren't the same as '65 thru '73, except for the 73.5 CIS model, of course.

In answering your next-to-last question, yes, I think it is just you! And, I think you would have had the same complaint if you had ordered from any major supplier!

And, no, I haven't had any problems with Tweeks, or Pelican, or PAP, or Automotion, or IXXI Enterprises, or Karousel, or Electrodyne, or Garretson's, or Performance Products, or AJ-USA, or Stoddard, or Zims, or Andial, or Vasek Polak ... over the past 23 years.

Warren is the only one! LOL

I hate those SOB's It gripes me to pay 5X the wholesale price to Tweeks - Automotion and Performance. Hell, I ordered a Steering wheel (for the love of Pete) from Performance 14 weeks ago and have recieved a rearview mirror, seat covers, and a MOMO shift knob. You can bet that since THEY REFUSED TO BUDGE ON THEIR "BACKORDER" I will be keeping this stuff until I am credited. I wont even give them a shot at delivering now.

Vertex seems OK, as does PartsHeaven and Pelican. The rest ought to go out of business, except for those that know no better than to pay ridiculous prices for things not in stock will just keep floating money their way - huh Warren?

I too have had great service from Pelican and Vertex. The guys at Vertex even came up with a water pump for my wife's Volvo at 1/2 price of my normal Volvo supplier. I am going to try and stump them this week with a toaster oven part request.

Warren, maybe I am just confused here. What I got were the same wires Greg says you can get from Vertex for $69.00, basic Beru wires. I really did believe that for $130.00 I was getting the braided set. And yes I am a "novice" Porsche owner and I guess a bit ignorant of what things cost. Maybe that is why I relied on what I saw. In the future I will be sure to call and ask what I am getting before I order.
