Bulb Holders

Does anyone have or know where I can get the bulb holders for the "city lights" that go inside the H4 housings? I believe they are the size that takes the 4w bulb and are probably identical to the US side marker light bulb holders.

Also, I did not have any pictures to help clarify things, so if anyone has some pictures of the items in question and could post them, I would be grateful. Thanks!

The H4 upgrade kit from Pelican comes complete with socket & bulbs.

Di you get a set without? They look molded in so you might have to fab something.

Ian,

Thanks for posting the great pics.

Since my car is an RoW model, it already has the H4's. The bulb holders, which simply push into that hole and are held in place by an extension of the copper ground clip, were removed during the federalization process. It would be nice to locate a source for these, since our sponsor does not seem to carry this item (unless you want to buy another set of H4's).

Anyone?

It's a Bosch kit, so that is the direction to look. But it might be a simple part from some obscure OEM.

If you do locate a source for the bulb holder let me know. I have been trying to find one for the past three years. I even asked people going to Hershey to be on the look out for any vendor that might have them. Pelican does sell the side bulb holder, but it is a different size.

Ruf-Porsche,

I did not see the holders for the side marker lights in our host's catalog. I do, however, think they are actually the same size holder; I recently took apart a pair of side marker lights, and they looked identical to the size that should fit. Also, they are designed for the same wattage bulb, 4w. Now if I could just find a source, or someone with two that are in like-new condition I would be set.

You may or may not want to modify your H4s (they're fairly common), but you could install a generic bulb holder (there are probably thousands) and modify the mounting hole to fit. Just an option. Maybe something to hold a low wattage LED bulb. Optical alignment isn't required; it's just a running light for visibility (not yours).

Hey Sherwood,

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I may end up doing something like that, but will try and buy these from one of our members first.

Anyone?

Ian,

Do you think you could pull that holder out and get a part number off that? I have a Bosch dealer in town, and he said a number would definitely help. He thinks this holder was used on other cars as well. Thanks!

I brought the bulb holder from Pelican Parts and it was too small. They look identical, but the side marker light bulb holder is smaller than the H4 city light bulb holder.

Ruf-Porsche,

Where did you find the holders on this site? I could not even find the side marker holders. Man, they sure look the same to me. Thanks for the info, and are they 4w bulbs? I would guess that they would be.

Here is the socket with bulb:

Without:

No markings except for the #10 on the bottom - on the white insulating part rather than the metal housing. You can see the 'bump' on the side that lines up with a groove on the H4 hole to slide it in. It takes a std 4W 12V bayonet base bulb. The hot is a spade male on the bottom. Grd is via the copper spring clip that also holds the bulb down.

Ian,

Thanks for posting these great pictures. I hope someone has a pair to sell. In the mean time, I will send these pictures to the Bosch distributor and see if he can come up with something. I am hoping this was used on other cars as well.

The picture show the City bulb holder (bulb is in the holder) and the bulb holder that I brought from Pelican Parts. The PP holder is smaller and the bulb doesn't fit the holder.

ruf-porsche,

Thanks for posting the pics that clearly show the difference between the two. Now, if I could just find the source! Since they still sell the H4's, they (Bosch) must be making them.

I think the later H4 headlight does not have the city light bulb in them anymore at least the USA version.

Problem resolved? How? Were you able to source Bosch city light bulb sockets?
