Advice needed-fresh air blower
Yesterday, my fresh air blower motor (the one next to the wiper motor) more or less stopped working. Sounds like bad bearings (awfully squeaking noise).
The replacement should not be that difficult, but as I have no description, any help would be greatly appreciated. Furthermore, some questions: - Are the bearings etc. accessible (means: is it possible/worth refurbishing the motor or should I buy a new one? - Once I am on that topic: Anyone knows how to remove the heater/blower control switch from the dashboard? Is it accessible from underneath? ( I have an AC, so therefore I don't see anything at present). Thanks in advance, jens '76 CIS '73 body conversion ------------------ |

Hey Guys,
Don't tell me that the blower motor is the only thing lasting forever, so nobody has ever worked on it... |

The blower motor does not last for ever. Mine was replaced in the hands of the previous owner about a year before I bought the car, but Porsche Zentrum Braunschweig did the job so no tricks to pass on. Sorry.

Mine did the same thing you describe. A nasty sound. I replaced mine with one from a junk yard. It's alot cheaper than over $200 dollars for a new one. I was going to see what I can do to fix the old one but have not gotten to it yet. I'll look at it again this weekend.

You're probably gonna laugh but when mine started squeeking badly I took it off, cleaned it and sprinkled a bit of graphite in and around the bearings and back on she went and I haven'y heard a squeek since!
Good luck, ------------------ Leland Pate ___79 SC Targa |

I'm planning on doing what Leland did.
I pulled mine out -not too hard, but I suggest marking the spot on the cables where they attach to the blower assembly so you can hook them up the same again when you put it back in. Also I remember it fouling the windscreen washer lines and being hard to remove. One of the bolts holding the actual assembly together had seized solid and stripped the plastic around the nut embedded in the plastic. So now mine is held together with regular screws. I was more worried about the condition of the rubber bits inside it around the "flapper vanes". I guess I can't replace them though. So I will try and banish the screeching demon using Leland's method. However, my question is on the controller. Mine seems to have two speeds off and high. Is the resistor screwed? ------------------ Cameron Baudinet 1975 911S [This message has been edited by CamB (edited 10-17-2000).] |

I've been agonizing over my heater blower motor. It has a self-truing front bushing that could be replaced except that the part is not sold. So, I got a bushing that will fit and I'm going to ream it with a rotary tool, press the bearing in using JB Weld, and see what happens. I'm a cheapskate, and I can't seem to locate this motor used. Apparently they wear out.
