Escort Solo cordless detector question with the 911..

Hey all,
I got a Escort Solo cordless radar/laser dectector for christmas. When I was looking through the owners manual, It mentioned that "a few vehicles (including Porsches) have windshields with a soft anti-lacerative coating on the inside surface. Use of suction cups will permanetly mar this coating.." My big question is, do older 911's (specifically 1989) have that windshield coating, or would I be safe to use the suction cups with this detector??

Thanks,
Paul

I would have to imagine the coating is on newer year vehicles. But im not sure. I was looking at getting the solo since it is easy to move from vehile to vehicle. you will have to let me know what you think after you get it installed.

my solo is back for repair work after only 13 months of weekend duty.
I advise to stick with conventional dc models.
there is no average battery life with one of these, the more it warns, the quicker it will drain. I depleted a new set of batteries just driving to Watkins Glen (5hrs) because of all the construction horses set up with jamming devices.
also, no easy way to determine if the unit is dead w/o studying the small (tiny) green intermediate blink, or seeing a set of blinking lights in the rearview.
ymmv

Paul, I've had an S2 in my car for two years and haven't noticed any problems with the glass.
Bummer on the bad unit bkreigsr, mine's been great and has absolutely paid for itself. Batteries last for at least 1000 miles or 10 hours, whichever comes first
Cheers

My Escort 8500 is not cordless so I routed the wire from a lead under the dash, under the windscreen rubber and around to the rear view mirror. The suction cups allow me to stick and angle the unit so it works perfectly and can't really be seen from outside the car. No coating on my original 75 windscreen or the replacement glass. Don't know when they started putting that coating on...

My Solo 2 is great. I have had it several years, use it constantly and replace the battery a couple times a year. (I had a V1 and it was also excellent, but could not stand the power cord.) Your windshield will not be harmed one bit.

update: I received a new Solo from Escort in today's mail, even though the warranty on my faulty one expired in Oct.
nice surprise, hope I have better luck with this one.

They have always been a very reputable, stand up company. I would have expected nothing less. Glad to hear it, and good luck. Looking forward to a report.
