911SC Sport Suspension Question?
Hi, this is my first post!
I have an '83 911SC (89,000 mi) and ordered the Kardex "birth certificate" for my specific car. It lists delivery with the "Sport Option suspension". Please help me by telling me what this option includes? I have the green Bilstein struts, but is that the only difference? I notice posts about switching to the turbo tie rods, but to be honest, my steering feels pretty nice and tight..was wondering if the Sport Option included the turbo tie rods too? Thank you for your replies! |

The Sport Option definately:
1) Came with the green sport Bilsteins. 2) Did NOT come with the Turbo tie rods! I think the Bilsteins were the only change. I'm pretty sure the torsion bars were the same on all the SCs. |

I believe Jim is correct. Mine has the same option and, as tight as the steering feels, I'm sure the turbo tie rod ends would increase the responsiveness. My friend's 914 has it, and it's definitely different. Basically it just eliminates the rubber sponginess. You'd definitely feel the difference if you installed the turbo tie rod ends.
I know Konis are excellent and popular shocks, but I'm a BIG Bilstein fan. Have been for years. Oh, by the way, I don't know if it's part of the same option, but my car came wiht 16" wheels and 205 and 225 tire sizes. I believe not all came with this. Should have, though. I consider these to be MINIMUM tire sizes for this car. Wiht tires and wheels, I say bigger is better. ------------------ '83 SC |

Thanks for your replies. Thought my steering was pretty good, now I get to look forward to even better steering when I replace with turbo tie rods in the futre. Yes, I also have the 205 and 225 16" inchers, which look okay, but wider would sure look better--but have decided to keep the car stock all original. Might do suspension upgrades which are not visible, but with these older cars, I also realize I better build up a financial "war chest" for future repairs!
