SC Wiper Motor/Linkage Removal

Afternoon all-
I've been having some difficulties lately with my wipers, they'd often stall, make big clunking noises and generally not work properly. Well I have started examining things and I have discovered the motor has come totally loose from its mounting bracket.
That explains the clunks. My problem is removing the whole assembly so that I may reinstall the motor mount bolts. There is a big wide (2"-3") strap in the back of the assy that appears to be bolted to the linkage bracket, and then screwed to the under side of the cowl.

Can anybody provide any hints at either accessing the screw and or the bolts for the strap? Any ideas on what the strap might be for?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Chris,

You are in luck, I just did this yesterday afternoon. The bolts you are talking about (at the bottom of the strap) are 8mm, the easiest way to get at these is with a very small box wrench, you can then fit a 8mm socket on them and use your fingers to back them out. It would be much easier for a kid with small hands. If your motor is the only thing loose you can just tighten the three bolts that hold it on and not touch the strap bolts. You will need a 10mm (I think) to get these bolts and you might be able to use your 1/4" ratchet if its as small as mine(Craftsman). Let me know if you need any more advise on this as its fresh in mind (and scars on my hands).

Thanks Seth! Yeah, was wondering if would just be better off trying to tighten everything down while it was still mounted.
Sounds like a great job for my 10 year old boy to get his "hands dirty".
