Correct rear emblems

Does anyone know the correct emblem material for a 73 T rear decklid?

PORSCHE letters & 911T script.

Is it Black, chrome or something else?
Thanks.

Rear Emblems

On my white 73.5 911T both PORSCHE and 911T are chrome. Hope this helps.

'73 is the same as '72 for the letters and script. The material is aluminum and they were orginally anodized. The color can best be described as a dark grey that can appear almost chrome-like as well as sometimes looking like a shiny black finish - all depending on the angle of viewing and lighting.

I just picked up an exceptionally nice set of letters on eBay that have the correct finish and color - all for about $50!

Hope this helps!

Happy Holidays!

Regards,

Kurt

Re: Re: Correct rear emblems

Here is a picture of a correct set of letters for the '72, '73 - I propped the first few letters up hoping to get a better scan of the color:

Yep. That's them all right. Only mine don't look quite as black...all those years of loving wash jobs...

Paint them with a satin rustolem several coats, then apply a polish cleaner wax and they come out looking almost anodized.
Easy, fun and you won't do any damage to the letters.
Cheers,

Has anybody had their letters re-anodized?
I have a 72S and it does look like the letters were originally black. They are now silver/grey.
I took them to an anodizing shop and they are worried that the back of the letter may be another material. Sort of a metal sandwich. I guess that can cause problems with the results.

If my letters are original (I think they are) can they be re-anodized?
thanks.

The satin rustoleum method would be an easy fix. I find their paints to be quite durable at least for garage queens. How about powder coating for even more durability and consistency of finish?

The above info sure doesn't explain this one! This '72
came from sitting in a barn for over 18 years. Has anyone determined that they only made 'em one way?

My recollection was that they were black anodized only in '73. The same year the turn signal lens trim also started in black. Could be wrong but that's what stuck with me over all these years.

Per Dr. B. Johnson's book black on 72-73 911s. My 72 was black but now looks like Mike's pic but my grill is faded as well.

As for re-anodizing, I don't know but it's the only way to do it right. There must be some info here or the S registry.some info here

Well for the final little project of my holiday vacation I decided to try the Rustoleum black satin method of enhancing my '73's rear grille and lettering.

For under $5 It's hard to argure with the results. The paint is still curing but tomorrow I'll buff the grill out just a little to get it perfect.

It takes a bit of careful masking around the 2.4 liter badging
