Just got a free pair of 16x9 Fuchs

Got your attention which is more than I can say for myself. I bought my '87 Targa back in September '06 and have enjoyed getting to know it. Before I bought it I went over it with a fine tooth comb and thought I really knew it but somehow missed the fact that it had 16x9s on the rear. The PO had the wheels custom painted to match the body color which I wasn't real crazy about. Since I put a set of 17in Lindseys on my '85 coupe, I immediately put the black centered Fuchs from the '85 on the '87 Targa and put the blue set aside. Well today I was unstacking the blue wheel set and noticed that the rear tires were 245s. I thought "man someone put the wrong size tires on these wheels." Then I thought these couldn't be nines could they?" I flipped them over and sure enough 9J. Wow a set of nines. It's almost like a Christmas present.
I guess I should have noticed it earlier. Here is my car when it was featured in Excellence magazine in 1988.

and how it looked when I bought it in September 2006.

Except for the blue wheels it's stock. Well not exactly stock since it now has a SW chip, Fabspeed premuffler, and an M&K single out exhaust. And yes the blue wheels are back on. Can't believe I had a pair of 16x9s stacked in the corner of my garage.

Didn't Turbo look cars have 9's as a stock wheel combo?

To relieve you of your guilt...

I would be happy to give you a hundred dollars for them.

I am only doing this to support you..

I don't really need them...

I'm just a giver.

Cheers and Happy New Year to you all...

Clayton

WOW! Now that's cool Jim! Of course, it's beautiful as always. I'll give ya' $200, and you won't even have to ship 'em...

Are you sure the color-matched centers weren't an option (can't tell if they were blue in the mag pic)? My wheels were optioned painted GPW to match the car.

I believe that white centers were the only optional colors from the factory. I have a receipt for $400 from the PO for having the wheel certers painted to match the body color. From all the paperwork I have on the car and notes from previous owners it seems that everyone missed the fact that the rears were 9s. It might not have been important to them but it certainly increases the value of the car in my mind.

From what I've read the 9's were optional. Those wheel wells look a little empty with 8's but that was what my '85 Turbolook came with. Looking at what folks are paying today for nines I'm tickled to have a set.

I remember reading about the 'scarey' fake fuchs wheels after buying my SC. I nervously removed a rear wheel and started to scrub off the crud; fingers crossed that i would see the little fox logo. It was there!! Relief. A little more scrubbing..... 16x9 !! Merry Christmas to me !! Originally I was quite happy thinking the car came with 8s.

Starting in '86, all 930 Turbos and M491 Turbo Looks came with 16x9's Fuchs standard in the rear, 16x7's in the front. Before '86 they all came with 16x8's in the rear.

Good info! Does anyone know if GPW was the only color that was optional for color matching the centers?

Cool that you found that they were indeed factory 16x9s. I know I'd be happy with them! I settle for 6 and 7s for the time being though...
